Socialist Night School: Orange County Military Industry History

Join OCDSA Political Education Committee as we discuss Orange County’s connection to the military industrial complex in the United States. We will be discussing excerpts from the following:

• “Suburban Warriors: The Origins of the New American Right” – Lisa McGirr
• “A People’s Guide to Orange County” – Elaine Lewinnek, Thuy Vo Dang, Gustavo Arellano
• “Imperialism, the Highest Stage of Capitalism” – Vladimir Lenin

We hope to consider some of the questions:

• How has military industry shaped the unequal development of Orange County’s economy, community, and politics?
• Why was GKN Aerospace allowed to operate a chemical plant in the middle of a working class neighborhood?
• How can we build organized resistance to military industrial interests and fight for an economy which uplifts rather than oppresses our fellow workers?
